4 Signs You Should Hire a Marketing Agency

By June 1, 2016February 7th, 2023Uncategorized

As a business owner, the decision to hire a marketing team is not always an easy one to make. You may find yourself thinking, how do I know that the struggling sales come from a lack of leads? Why not just hire a marketing person to take care of it all in-house? Or why don’t I just take care the marketing myself?

A marketing agency can be a quick and affordable way to revive or enhance your marketing efforts to produce the leads and (hopefully) sales to drive profits up. Here are 4 clear signs that you should consider hiring a marketing agency.

1) Your marketing efforts don’t produce consistent results

If you suddenly experience an increase in website traffic, phone calls, or new leads, do you know where they’re coming from? If not, you’re likely wasting your time on ineffective marketing strategies and squandering potential opportunities for even greater success.

It’s easy to think of inbound marketing as a great solution to your marketing woes. When starting out you may think it’ll be easy to execute with sending out tweets and writing blog posts here and there. What happens when your results are hit or miss? While the effort is admirable, a shot-in-the-dark approach won’t get you very far.

Most companies will struggle to produce results in their inbound marketing because they lack one or both of these two things:

  • Strategy
  • Process

You’ll need strategy to devise a plan specifically for your business/industry and a process to execute that strategy. Without both these elements in place, you’ll struggle to produce consistent results.

A marketing agency will look closely at your business, your industry, your challenges, and your goals to put together (and execute) a strategy to overcome those challenges and meet your goals. They’ll also help you measure and track campaign results to continually improve your strategy.

2) Marketing is not your top priority

As owner/CEO of a new company you are a busy person and as a busy person, you have to prioritize your different tasks/goals for each day/week/month/quarter/year. It only makes sense to prioritize those tasks which immediately pay the bills or put out the fires.

Because marketing takes time and strategy, it quickly moves to the bottom of the pile.

Random blog posts, uninspired emails and landing pages, and a half-hearted approach to social media will not bring the desired results. Since marketing is the only thing a marketing agency does, they can simultaneously take it off your plate and make it top priority. A good marketing agency will get to know you and your business really well and then apply their skills. Let them bring their passion for marketing to your passion for your business.

3) Sales are struggling

The blame for struggling sales may very well not land on your marketing efforts. It could be that your sales person (team) lacks a process and is just wasting quality leads or the market as a whole is struggling. However, if you know there is a market for your product and service, and you’re confident that your customer service, sales team and pricing are stellar, the problem with lagging sales could well be ineffective marketing.

A good marketing agency will learn about your sales process and integrate their marketing with your sales team. With the support and input of your sales person (team), they’ll refine and adjust your marketing based on real results.

4) You lack the budget to build an in-house marketing team

Building an in-house marketing team can easily get very expensive. You have to think of various positions like:

  • Content producer
  • Inbound marketing specialist
  • Social media manager
  • SEO (PPC) specialist
  • Graphic designer

To name a few, and all that can get expensive fast. Even if that is out of reach for your smaller business, when you hire a marketing agency, you can still get the benefits of all that experience and all those skills – for about the cost of one employee.
